ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Stonestreet Screen Acting & Production Workshop is a unique and comprehensive residency program that has pioneered the art and craft of screen acting and filmmaking since its inception in 1990.
While screen acting can utilize many of the same techniques and tools of theater acting, there are significant differences with regard to subtext, process, preparation, set life, and utilizing current technology in creative and non-limiting ways. This includes creating organic and compelling characters that resonate under many different ‘lenses’ - from medium or long shots to the magnifying glass of a wide angle lense, close-up or ECU. Students are guided from screen auditions to pre production, rehearsal to performance, with the hopes of inspiring ideas and stories that are meaningful to both the actor and the audience.

Workshop classes include: Screen Acting & Production, Directing the Actor, Screen Character, Screen Improv & Comedy, PSAs & Voice-Overs, Creating Your Own Material and Producing Your Own Career.

As an advanced conservatory of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts BFA Program, Stonestreet opens its doors to professional and international students every summer for this six-week intensive workshop. The program is available to be taken for NYU Credit or Non-Credit.

Stonestreet is a 10,000-sq ft, full service film studio with multi-camera set-ups, sound, lighting, and post-production editing systems. While experiencing this world first hand in studio, on set, and through post-production, students learn to creatively meet and surmount the demands it creates, whether they are actors, directors, or interested in other key jobs in film, including production and writing.

Stonestreet’s uniquely branded MicroMovies – produced across the studio & the residency program – provide actors with on-set experience and reel footage, along with access to festivals, directors, and many new creatives they will continue to collaborate with after completing the Stonestreet program.
